Timelapse video of building a Theremax theremin

Here's a fun time lapse video by MySpace user cabinneighbors building a PAiA Theremax theremin. I'm not sure it would help you with any construction questions, I have to admit there's something wildly satisfying about seeing a theremin being formed out of a bag of parts in just slightly over 4 minutes.

Well maybe not exactly a steam theremin (at least not yet) but performance artist, and Art Institute of California faculty member, Lorin Edwin Parker did build a steam powered synthesizer, The Parker Steam Synthesizer.

As part of his UFO installation with artist Jay Stuckey, he built ten different custom theremins.
And for his latest Electric Western project, he built an all retro-tech tube theremin recreating as closely as possible Lev Termen's 1919 original.

Keeping a Do-It-Yourself approach to all his work, his projects have included a wide variety of unique apparatuses.

Art Harrison Theremin

It took Rockville Maryland's Arthur Harrison almost 20 years to perfect his custom theremin design, and like most of us many hours of work to master playing it.

Arthur has been turning heads and spreading the Theremin Word around MD performing solo at various venues, including informal ones like cafes and book stores, and as a member of the electronic music band The Cassettes.

He owns Harrison Instruments where he designs and sells several styles of theremins with a continuing commitment to refine Lev Termen's original design.
